About

Praised for her “radiant tone and fearless musicality” (The Arts Review), violinist Dr. Elena Markovic has appeared as soloist and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe. Known for thoughtful programming and emotionally direct performances, she is equally at home with the great masterworks of the violin repertoire and contemporary works by living composers.

Recent highlights include performances of the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius violin concertos with regional orchestras across the Midwest, as well as a recital tour featuring works by Bach, Clara Schumann, and Jessie Montgomery. A dedicated chamber musician, she is a founding member of the Meridian String Trio, with whom she has performed at universities and summer festivals nationwide.

Dr. Markovic currently serves as Associate Professor of Violin at Lakeshore University, where she teaches studio violin, chamber music, and string pedagogy. Her students have won top prizes in regional competitions and have gone on to pursue graduate study at leading conservatories.

Committed to community engagement, she regularly presents interactive performances in schools and collaborates with local arts organizations to expand access to classical music. Her debut solo album, Resonant Voices, featuring music by women composers of the 19th and 21st centuries, was released in 2023.

Dr. Markovic holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Texas at Austin. She performs on a 19th-century Italian violin and resides in Chicago with her husband and their rescue dog, Aria.
